This series of six original lithographs were produced in collaboration with famed print shop Derriere L’Etoile Studios. In the tradition of the print shop’s collaborative work with visual artist pioneers, such as Rita Ackerman, Jeff Koons, Kara Walker and Claes Oldenburg, Shantell worked side by side with master printer Maurice Sanchez to create a series of original drawings in the Long Island City Studio. Maurice was drawn to Shantell’s spontaneous ability to tell a seamless story across a number of pieces. Like all of her other work, Shantell’s visual storytelling is strongly influenced by her context, noting that the collaboration was just as much about the process as the end result.
After 15 drawings, five studio visits, and many colorful conversations, Maurice picked the final set of six sequenced drawings. All drawings were created directly onto clear mylar which directly projected onto a plate and printed on an offset proof press.
The handmade prints are titled One through Six and are a limited edition of 44. Impressions one through fifteen of each edition are sold as sets of six. They are signed and numbered and are printed on Rives 300 gram paper.
