2022

Shantell Martin’s THE FUTURE is now open at Shepard and Amanda Fairey's Subliminal Projects in LA. Here is a photo reveal of some exhibit details.

In addition to inviting Martin to exhibit THE FUTURE, Fairey and Martin collaborated on a limited-edition letterpress print (run of 150).

Martin expanded on Fairey’s well-known phrase “obey” and titled the reflective work “obey more.”

“Considering the time period we’re in and Shepard’s iconic ‘obey’ brand, the concept of ‘obey more’ is meant to make us think a bit more deeply about current events and consequences,” commented Martin.

After developing and drawing the concept, Martin handed the art off to Fairey who letterpressed his art on top (letterpress is a process that prints from an ink-raised surface to create a very crisp, high-quality image).

Additionally, here is an image of Martin’s 27-point Future of Art manifesto reminding us collectively to ask: What and who is art for?

The exhibit runs through June 4th at Subliminal Projects, 1331 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA.
