Shantell Martin is proud to announce her upcoming residency at the 92Y, a multifaceted cultural institution and community center on the upper east side of Manhattan. The three-month multimedia residency will include an immersive workshop, a talk at the Art Center, a performance (an experimental collaboration of dance and Martin's music) and her exhibition Why Now. at the Milton J. Weill Art Gallery.
Why Now. is an exploration of identity and how the process of self-discovery plays into one’s identity with community and society at large. While this is an important and serious journey every person must make for themselves, Martin demonstrates the positivity of a spontaneous, fun and humorous approach.
