LACMA’s  first-ever  NFT  acquisition  &  The  May  Room  Extended

June
2022

Shantell Martin's NFT "THE QUESTION" is the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s (LACMA's) first-ever NFT acquisition as part of their newly formed fund to acquire digital art made by women artists.

Dhyandra Lawson, the assistant curator in LACMA’s photography department, commented, “This is an extremely fertile period for digital art. We’re just seeing tons of innovation by artists in a variety of media. [The fund] will really help us augment and expand our collection in important ways.”

In addition to NFTs, the fund will support works with artificial intelligence, augmented reality, animation, graphics, multimedia installation, photography, performance, software, sound, and video art.

The May Room at Governor’s Island featuring Martin's art has been extended through summer 2022. Martin's drawings in the former chapel were inspired by her personal experiences and research of the history of the Island. Try to stop by to visit and experience. Hours are Saturdays and Sundays, 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
