On August 13th, Shantell Martin returned to Journal Squared in Jersey City for an evening with local residents and members of the community, sharing more about her work, creative practice, and the story behind the large-scale artwork permanently installed in the building.

The 12 x 12-foot canvas was originally commissioned for Journal Squared and created on site while the building itself was still under construction, giving the work a unique connection to the evolution of the space. Returning years later offered Shantell an opportunity to reconnect with the piece in its finished home and speak directly with some of the people who now encounter it as part of their everyday lives.
