ROCKEFELLER CENTER

This immersive installation spanned public spaces across Rockefeller Center.

2024

Rockefeller Center, in partnership with Art Production Fund, proudly presented a site-specific installation by Shantell Martin as part of their Art in Focus program. This immersive exhibition spanned public spaces at Rockefeller Center, showcasing Shantell’s iconic large-scale wall drawings and highlighting the spontaneity and flow that defines her work.

In select spaces, blank canvases awaited Shantell’s for a live drawing experience for guests on site. On September 7th, as a part of their Art Sundae program, children could join in, using recycled bottles to craft their own art and contribute to a larger installation.

As part of this special installation, visitors explored works that Shantell created with her Grandmother, Dot Martin, that have been previously on display at the Brooklyn Museum and the NBMAA Museum, a series of released products.

KOOBs—an illustrated series where characters emerged through fine lines and narratives unfurled in a folded, accordion-style book. A 125-foot mural based on two of these KOOBs adorned the Rink Level at 45 Rockefeller Plaza, with physical KOOBs displayed upstairs, offering a glimpse into Shantell's world-building process.
